Kevin Holbrough is a UK based trombonist, composer and educator. He began his playing career at the age of thirteen performing in many of the well known Colliery Brass Bands of Yorkshire, playing throughout the UK. In 1994 he began studying Jazz and Classical Music at Leeds College Of Music, where he studied both Trombone and Piano with Michael Carton, Multi Instrumentalist Al Wood and former Halle Orchestra Bass Trombonist Neville Roberts.
Upon graduation in 1997 Kevin spent three years working in show bands of American Cruise Liners, based in Miami- P&O Princess and Holland America Line. Within this time he completed contracts in over 40 countries. After completing such contracts he then went on to spend a further two years in Europe touring extensively with the West End Show “The Official Tribute To The Blues Brothers” and Broadway Musical “42nd Street”. After completing European tours Kevin returned to Leeds to pursue a freelance career and further work in music education. Alongside a busy performing schedule Kevin currently lectures in Jazz Trombone at Leeds College Of Music and as a visiting Trombone tutor for Hull University.
With an ever expanding discography, Kevin has performed with many highly reputable pop artistes, singers, bands and jazz artists throughout the UK and Europe at major venues, clubs and many Jazz festivals, including Glastonbury, London Palladium, The Royal Albert Hall. These have included UK tour dates with Indie band Embrace, The Bee Gees, Ronan Keating, PP Arnold, Englebert Humperdinck,Tony Hadley, Peter Grant, Martha Reeves, Martin Fry and ABC. He is currently in the orchestra of top British Entertainer “Joe Longthorne”. Other performing credits include (to name but a few)“The Rat Pack Live From Las Vegas”, Dennis Rollins’ Boneyard, NYJO, La Gran Descarga, Andy Prior Big Band and he is currently a member of the innovative “Jamil Sheriff” Octet where he is featured on both of the bands highly praised albums, “Daydreams” and their latest release “Backchat”. Festival work has also included performances with jazz artistes such as Phil Woods, Joe LaBarbera, James Morrison, Julian Joseph and Rob McConnell. Other groups that Kevin is currently involved in include “The Steve Parry Big Band”, “La Gran Descarga”, "B3 Horn Section" and can also be seen performing in his own quartet featuring Pianist Andrezj Baranek, Drummer Hugh Lawrence and Bassist Adrian Knowles.
